Summer Shapiro
ABOUT

Summer Shapiro is a physical comedienne. Summer was an avid performer, trained in acting at UCLA School of Drama, Samuel Beckett School of Drama in Dublin, Ireland, School of The Arts in San Francisco and California Institute for the Arts in Valencia, CA before she decided to go to clown school. She realized the satisfaction of looking directly into the audience's eyes, instead of using a fourth wall, was what she always feared and desired most.

Now having written and performed three original physical comedy shows in the last year, two of them going to the New York Clown Theater Festival, and one of them performing along side Cirque Du Soleil veteran, John Gilkey, Summer is grateful for her choice to study clown.

Summer's performances deal with real time and real space: in other words, she designs her performances to be a reveal of the awkwardness of being a human being right here, right now. Summer's performances revolve around taking the ridiculous desires of herself as a human being, putting them in front of other human beings and making a delicious sandwich of the two. Summer looks to create orchestrated mishaps, controlled chaos and a playful electricity of risky humanity on stage. Thus far resulting in a joyful concoction.

Summer's passion in her comedic performance is to play with people in such a way that they come home to themselves, their humanity and the beauty of being alive.

Summer would appreciate any donations. The money will go directly to Summer developing new work in conjunction with the Climate Theater Artist in Residence Program.
